Hi and welcome to the Scary Goals Club podcast and happy new year. Oh my gosh it is the 2nd of January and I am recording this and [00:01:00] you'll be listening to it tomorrow if it's in real time on Friday the 3rd and I just want to say Happy new year and welcome to 2025, whatever it's going for you. I actually have, I've got a scary girls club party that I still just need to edit and put up.
I was like, it doesn't feel like that is the episode I want to give to you guys. Like for the start of the new year, I felt I really just wanted to record an episode, just hop on here and just say hi and say happy new year and just, Give a few ideas, like if you're in the place where if you've done your reflection on last year and kind of closed out 2024 and extracted all the goodness out of it, just give you some ideas for framing 2025.
If you're starting to kind of think ahead, think about your vision for that, think about like what it is you want to be creating, what scary goals you want to go after, and just some things that will be really helpful. Um, I've got kind of three different [00:02:00] things to focus on that'll be really helpful in helping you do that.
So that's where I'm taking this episode today. I've also got chocolate in my teeth. And I'm in, I almost, I was like, do I put the video on or not? I'm sitting, it's like in the evening, Luke's doing bedtime. So I've like brought all my, Oh my god, is the thing on? Oh no, it is on! Okay, cool. Oh my gosh, I have such fear about the thing going, the battery's going off.
No, we're good. Um, so I brought all the stuff down, I like snuck upstairs, they were in the bath, and like got all my recording equipment, brought it all down, and uh, and I've got a cup of tea, which is like, I've like literally just been putting, it's like three tea bags, I've not had them all at once, but, I like just keep adding.
I'm like, I could just put in, take out the teabag, put another one. I'm like, it's like a herbal tea. I'm like, or I just leave it in and keep adding hot water. So yeah, cheers to 2025. It's so funny because actually like, yes, it's the start of like a new [00:03:00] year, like in terms of the calendar that we have at the moment, but it's weird almost having this like new, you know, it's like new birth, new year, new year, whatever the stuff that like you get pushed.
And it's like. Yes, it's useful, but also, I don't know, for me, like, spring feels like that kind of time of when it's like you've come out of the winter of that, like, internally, like, kind of reflective, a bit, maybe like quieter time of year. Certainly I like end up hunkering down. And so I just want to offer that, like, sometimes when we can take a step back and think about, okay, how are we as humans and how do we like just want to naturally be like with the natural world and how nature cycles are sometimes.
You know, if you're not feeling like, yeah, yeah, yeah, new year, go, go, go, like right now, but are still in a period of like wanting to hunker down and like, just like nourish yourself and go a bit more like internal and introspective, like that's okay [00:04:00] too. And then maybe starting to think about the year and just giving yourself a bit of that space and then like start in spring.
I don't know. I just want to offer that like, there can be so much pressure sometimes around, you new year and like what it needs to be and like starting the new year's resolutions and like at the end like if it's useful and it's helpful to you amazing that's the thing with all of these if it's helpful great if it's not and it's used as like a way to add extra pressure or beat yourself up like just let it go it's like literally another day and this new year especially has felt like that i will i will get into it at some point not right now i'm in the middle of it at the moment but it has been a really Fucking hard new year.
It has been very different than I had thought New Year's Eve and it's around this whole time and something has happened that's like kind of been outside of my control and [00:05:00] I'm kind of just in it now and Again, it probably sounds quite vague, but, and I'm okay, but yeah, I, and I will talk about it at some point, just not right now, but, um, it's just like, okay, this is just what it is.
And almost like being present with, this is not the, well, it almost feels like a fitting end to 2024, which, yeah. Not quite hard. It's like, oh, okay. I hear another thing just before midnight on 2024. We'll just like sneak this thing in as well. Great. Um, so yeah, I'm sure it's all part of some bigger reason.
I'm definitely like something that's really helped me this year is like, like I've not been, I've not been that spiritual person. Like I grew up, this is not where I thought this episode would go, but I'm just going to go there and then I will get into the like, Three things that will help you when you're starting to think about 2025.
But, um, [00:06:00] you know, I used to go to like Sunday school and do that. And that was quite like church focus and religion focused. And it didn't resonate with me that much. And I think maybe I had then went to uni and did like science and was very much like science and logic and like this equals this and this equals that.
And almost kind of stepped away from that, like. bigger piece and it's not that I was anti religion as such, it was more that the elements of it like just didn't resonate with me or like organized religion in that sense just didn't resonate with me at all and it was almost like I clung on to the science.
But what's really interesting is like one bit that had always, it wasn't that I was like atheist, it was more just like agnostic, like didn't really, I was like there's probably something but I don't know exactly what it is and
There was one bit, I don't know if you've read Philip Pullman's books, um, what are they called? God, my brain is literally on like, oh, [00:07:00] uh, the gold, look, there's like the golden compass or is that the, I read them when I used to live in Alaska as a kid and I read them in Alaska and they've got like slightly different names.
It was the golden compass, but it might be called something else, the subtle knife and then the amber spyglass. But again, they might be called something else in the UK, I can't remember. Anyway, his, It's trilogy form. This trilogy, my gosh. Anyway, I'm just gonna go with this and keep this recording and if you switch off and zone out, that's okay, , I get that.
Um, anyway, so I read reading his like trilogy and in it he talks about and like the. It's almost like the, like the binding forces of the universe is like the stuff called dust, but it's like, you know, when you go into like particle physics and I did quantum physics at uni, I studied mathematical physics to start with.
And like, I remember learning about quantum physics and you're going down to like, what is like at the smallest scale of like, what is holding everything, like everything around us together. And it's like, Yeah. Yeah. You know, [00:08:00] it's like, we think we are like, you can touch it and it's matter, but it's like most of actually what we're made up of isn't actually physical matter.
It's energy. And it's like, remember some of the crazy, like quantum physics experiments where it's like. everything is a particle and a wave at the same time until you then measure it and then it becomes a particle like because you're there's this like double slit experiment anyway I'm not going to get into that but I remember being like what this is crazy and it's almost like everything that you get taught at school or that we I was taught at school like classical physics Newtonian physics this does this and this does this like completely breaks down when you get to stuff that's massive like in the kind of like universe space Dimensions, or like in the tiny, tiny, like, um, particle physics, quantum physics area.
Someone's probably gonna be like, what the fuck are you talking about? Anyway, so what Phil Pullman was talking about was like, it, you know, it's like this dust or like dark matter, like energy, like all of that kind of stuff with basically like the building [00:09:00] blocks of all of life and like energy. And I think that always resonated with me of like, okay, I know that there's something that's like.
Lowing and binding everything together. And it's like how, you know, it's like humans are amazing. We can pick up on how someone else is feeling or is being like their energy. They don't need to say anything. They don't need to do anything. It's just like, you can kind of tell. And so definitely there, it was like, okay, I know that there's like something that exists that's bigger than me, but like, oh, whatever the map, like, I don't really know what it is.
And then just earlier this year, um, I got into, um, um, uh, a bit more like manifestation. So manifestation is basically just goal. It's goal setting. It's like creating something, like manifesting something, bringing something to light, like goal setting. But in terms of, there's also like a more, I guess more spiritual side to it, which is, you know, taking it to that higher level of like, it's not just you, [00:10:00] like you, like we do not exist in isolation.
Like everything is connected. We are connected to nature, to other people, to like, you know, it's that whole phrase. It's like, We're all made of stars, like energy. And again, this is going back to physics, but it's like energy can't be created or destroyed, like it only just changes form. And so. Even it's like the cycle of life and death and like humans.
It's like we go back to energy, go back to the earth in some form and it's like then something else is born or is birthed or created from that. So everything it's just, it's like when you can think of it in that way, like nothing is created or destroyed. Everything just changes form, changes state, just like shifts around.
And so part of that is like believing in this. something bigger than one's self and that like everything is connected at this bigger level and whether that is now I understand it's like for some people that is God and then that like just never really resonated with me like I still used to kind of pray to God sometimes but it didn't truly resonate and [00:11:00] for whatever reason like the teachings didn't just like click with me whereas the piece of like energy the piece of like the universe and or source is what it's also called it's almost like us as our highest selves it's like You know, what is that stuff where we can see our own thoughts, we can observe our feelings, we can think beyond, we can like close our eyes and like we are connected to something bigger, this like consciousness, this like awareness of we can think to the future and the past and imagine and dream and it's like, That really resonated with me and it's taken me a bit, like, I was kind of like, oh, this universe stuff.
Okay. And actually, as I have leaned more into it, and I think especially it's that, like the trusting of the universe. So almost like I will do what I do and I can control what I can control. And then it's almost like leaving the rest up to, maybe some people call it fate, but I feel fate is almost like.
to me [00:12:00] is like, you have no say, but whereas it's almost like, more than fate, it's like, you will do what you can, you have your intention for how you want to be or what outcome you want, and then almost like releasing it and trusting that there is this like, Bigger forces at play that will, the word in manifestation is like co creation, co create.
It's like that will also help make this thing happen. And actually with what has happened just like over New Year in the last kind of few days has felt so freaking hard. And yet, well, two things have been really helpful. One is that like that spiritual side of just being able to almost like trust that like in some way it's going to work out in a way that's going to benefit me that I will look back and be like, okay, yeah, that was really freaking hard.
But like where I am now in the future, like it has led me here [00:13:00] and almost like trusting that What I'm working towards is still happening, but what I'm working towards is going to happen in some form, just not yet. Basically. I know this sounds really big because I've not explained it properly, but, um, so that's been really, really helpful.
And then the other piece, I think just with when things happen that we maybe don't expect or can be quite sudden and different than how we're expecting, and it can feel quite like. For me specifically this one like there's a lot like sadness a lot of like grief and I think like in the past sometimes I would ignore that and I would Um, certainly pre coaching, pre therapy, like we just have kind of ignored it and pushed it away and just like busied myself and I know that, and even like in the early stages of coaching and therapy, like, like, yeah, yeah, I'll feel my feelings, but you know, will I, I'll, I'll kind of feel them a little bit and then I'll like go and do more [00:14:00] things and it would always like be stuck there.
Whatever feeling was like trying to be like, Hey, hello, I need you to acknowledge me and still kind of slightly push it away a bit. But just in the last. Last year, for sure, I've been, like, really, really processing my feelings. Not all the time, like sometimes I'm just like, oh, I just want to run away, but like this time I've just been, and I'm almost like imagining like opening my heart and just, yeah, it's almost like the pain is there, the sadness, the grief is there, but it's like with my heart, I can imagine it's like, yeah, opening my heart and it's almost like really feeling like.
Love as well and sending love to myself as I'm like going through this and so I've almost been open to I know only that the really hard emotions like grief feels really hard It feels really heavy and like restrictive and I just want to run away from it but like I've been able to be present with that and the sadness, but I've also been able to feel such immense love because I think that's it when you have grief and when you [00:15:00] have sadness like it's because You've cared about something it's because like there's been love there as well and so I've been able to like really feel that and almost have these like two contrasting it's crazy it's like yeah and actually like the more that I have processed through the pain the sadness the grief the more I've been able to feel the love feel joy feel like awe and wonder at the same time it's almost like I've made space for those positive I don't like using like positive and negative feelings but it's like or emotions but it's like You know, it's like there's such contrast in the human experience and to be present when we can be present with our whole human experience, even the stuff that like we just want to shut down and run away from when we can be present with it, that all also opens up space for like awe and wonder.
And even again, part of that's like the universe piece and having that trust and even the last few days, like I've just been noticing, I've not been out that much, I've been like kind of [00:16:00] hibernating inside, but just noticed. Even just little things like we've got some really nice like big tall Scots pine trees at the back door.
I've just been like going out, like looking up at them and like, I don't know how old it must be they're massive. And then there's like stars above and just like looking up and seeing like Cassiopeia and like the Seven Sisters and I think it's Jupiter's like you can see it in the sky and there was this like tiny crescent moon tonight.
And it's like actually just being able to feel this like awe and this like immense wonder at the world and that like. Being a human on this planet, even though there's all the like hard stuff and all the sadness as well. And so I think that's been amazing and just something that I feel so grateful to have that I wouldn't have had if I didn't have the tools of coaching and have learned that and like really just be able to be present and know that whatever happens that I know that I'm okay.
And not only that I'm okay, but like I can actually [00:17:00] like laugh and experience it and just, and I think sometimes when we repress emotions and we don't. allow them to be there and, like, process them through, they get stuck. And so we almost, we can't access, like, the joy and the awe and the connection, where, because it's, like, still there just below the surface, feeling like it's going to bubble up, when we can just let it be there, let it, like, whatever happens, like, I've been crying so much, I've been dancing, I've been walking, I've been sleeping, like, drinking lots of water, there's been lots of stuff going on.
And. Yeah, I think when we can just be present and not judge ourselves and not shame ourselves for how we're feeling and what we want to do and just listening to our bodies, that then creates space for all the other stuff as well. And especially having a two year old who's like, he's so fun and just like wants to play and wants to be silly.
And I know that if I wasn't able to just like process through these really intense, big feelings and I think also with ADHD, it's like, I know that one of the, which could be a [00:18:00] benefit. It's like. I feel feelings and they feel really painful sometimes because they feel so intense, which can be a good thing because some of them feel amazing when they're intense.
And also it means I care and like, you know, It can feel like just this crazy intense humanness of just like what it's like to be alive right now. So anyway, it's not what I thought I would get into, but that's been where I'm at the moment and some things that have been really help helping me. So where am I going with this?
I am going to, but I do want to talk through, I'm going to have a sip of tea, my triple tea. I would, I do want to talk through though. No, so final bits is just like, so. Yeah, I guess however you are feeling, just knowing that like, it's okay, there's no right or wrong, and just, what if you just allowed yourself to feel it a little bit more.
What if [00:19:00] you allowed yourself just to not like numb it or like distract yourself and actually just be present with it and if you need to cry like have a cry if you need to like move have a mood like move about and just what if you allowed yourself to feel just a little bit more and you might be surprised what actually happens and if you want a hand with any of that stuff I mean that's obviously what I do with, well it's not obviously but that's what I do with coaching so like I can 100 percent help you with that.
Oh here comes Maple. Hi. Hi. How are you? Give her a clap. Um, so I just wanted to, if you are in the stages of starting to think about 2025 now, I thought I would be doing some of this on New Year's Eve and like the last few days of getting really excited about the year. I did a little bit of it yesterday.
I was like, okay, I feel like I can start to think about, okay, what would be some really fun things, but
not that much of it. I've actually just been like, you know what, if it takes me another week, that's okay too. So just if you're not there yet and [00:20:00] you're like, or maybe you don't even think about the year ahead, you just kind of go full into it or you have like news resolutions. I don't know whatever you do.
I don't really set news resolutions. I just more like think about like the year ahead and think about, okay, what I want that year to be like, rather than I will commit to doing these things. That can be fine if it works for you, but I like to think about more like the year and like, okay, well, what am I creating for this year?
Anyway, so three things that will be like, if you're starting to think about 2025, three things that are really going to help. First one is before you start. Because like, really check in and tune in with what you already have and become grounded in that. So if you need to go and listen to the episode I did about reflecting on last year, like one of the first exercises there is like, I intend all of your wins from 2025.
And one of the last exercises is what are all the things you have now to be grateful for that, like at some point you never had and at some point in the future you're [00:21:00] not going to have. And really just like being so present with that. So if you need, if you need that, like start with that. Okay. So it's like before, because before we want to be setting anything new and going after something else, we want to do it from the right place, because this is how I used to set goals.
I used to be like, right onto the next thing. Cause I need to prove something because I need to do this. It was almost these like sanitary metrics of like external stuff and achievements. And, and it was coming from a place of like, okay, well I have now is not quite enough, but when I do this, then I'll be enough.
And, or like, if I do this, I'll be. Good. And if I don't, I'm a failure. Like I added all this weight. Whereas if we can start from a place where we are already enough, like we don't need anything else. We actually have more than we ever wanted ever. And we have everything that we need and we can really start from that place.
It shifts what goal settings about goal setting, manifesting, like whatever you want to call it. And then it shifts it [00:22:00] into more. Okay, I want to do this because it would be so fun. It would be such an amazing thing to go and create rather than like, I want to do this because I'm going to prove something.
And if I don't, then I'm going to be a failure. Okay, so it's just like a very different energy that you're going to go after it. Like, if you're going after something. because it's going to prove something about yourself, you won't be satisfied even if you do it. You'll be like, but I now need this. It's like, it's never ending.
There'll be something else to like replace it. Whereas if you're going after it where you're like, this would be some fun and this would light me up. Like it's just going to feel flowy and fun and like creative. And this also works really well for neurodivergent brains because we are interest driven. So it's like, If we're really interested in something and we genuinely do it because it lights us up and we want to do it, we're going to, it's going to be so easy to go and like do the things that are going to make it happen and be the person that's going to be creating it.
Whereas if we're trying to be like, well, I should be doing this because someone like this does [00:23:00] this thing. Like, for example, I'll give you a specific example. Like last year when I decided to do the podcast, I was like, I really want to do this. Like, I am just like so excited to go and do it. Whereas I think a few years ago, it was like, I know I'd always wanted to do it, but at one point it was almost like, oh, I'm a coach now I should do a podcast because that's what coaches do.
And like, that is completely the wrong place because if I'd done it from that place, it would have felt forced. I wouldn't have been into it. I probably would have lost interest and been like, oh, can't be bothered. Whereas genuinely, like, this is the most fun. I get to just like, yab a lot of stuff that I think is really fun.
And. There you go. That's it. And even if no one listens, I'm getting so much out of it. And if it's helpful, well, that's amazing too. So thanks for listening. And yeah, so, so again, specifically, particularly, sorry, particularly if you're a neurodivergent, then setting goals and making sure they come from a place that you are genuinely wanting to do it because it's fun, [00:24:00] because it excites you and lights you up.
That's the sign. Okay. And so it comes from at the start being like, I have everything I need right now and I am enough as I am. Like, really believing that, that you are enough as you are, that you right now have everything that you need and just being, like, feeling so grateful, like, how amazing. And now this would be really fun.
Okay, so that's the first thing. So when you are Well, the first thing is getting grounded in what you already have. The second one is, is the thinking about, okay, what's fun? So like, really allowing yourself to dream, like what would be so fun for 2025? Okay. And get a piece of paper, get like a blank sheet of paper, do some like drawing, sketch it out, write it out.
Visualize, like, again, grounded in what you already have, but just, like, play movies in your mind. If you're a really visual person, go for a walk and, like, imagine it as you're walking, put music on, dance about, and just, like, see what comes to you. Like, make the whole process of it really, really fun. [00:25:00] And I just want to offer, like, not to be shutting down if it's realistic, okay?
So we are not fucking setting smart goals. I might do a whole episode on this. I'm so, like passionate about this. It's like, stop fucking setting smart goals. If you're setting smart goals, stop. We don't want them to be realistic. Specific is great. Measurable. I can't remember what that is. Achieve Achievable?
No, it must be something else. Oh my god, what is it? You should probably know this. I'm like, don't fucking say it. And then I'm like, what even is a smart goal? Okay, hang on. Smart. Ah, okay, here we go. So R is not realistic. R is relevant. Relevant is fine. Specific, yes, specific is useful because you know where you're going.
Measurable, 100%, you want to know like when you're going to get there, it's not just going to be this vague open ended thing. Achievable, no. Who fucking cares [00:26:00] if it's achievable? I promise, like, anyway, look at the other one. R is relevant and T is time bound. Time bound is useful because it helps you actually take action.
It becomes from this being this vague thing to being like, oh, actually, I'm doing it in this time frame, which is why when you're thinking about 2025, if you have the time frame of 2025, amazing. But if you don't create it by the end of 2025, It doesn't matter, you just shift it back a few months, shift it back a year, like you're still working towards the goal, it's still going to happen.
It doesn't like the time frame doesn't matter as much as like actually going after it. But if you set a time frame, it's going to help you go after it. And so the, um, so yeah, you don't want them to be necessarily achievable. Like it, that literally doesn't matter. There's so many, so many goals I have set, but like some of them I've achieved, some of them I haven't.
But. If I was like, Oh, I don't know if that's achievable. So I'm not going to do it. I would have never done it. And it's like, but actually like what you are imagining. Okay. So [00:27:00] achievable. Hang on. I'm having a drink of water so I can get back to my rant. It's not water. It's tea. It's watery tea. It's like decaf tea with oat milk in it.
So it's pretty much water, flavored water, tea flavored water. Okay. Achievable.
Achievable. is only like what even is achievable because achievable means coming from like your current understanding of what you think is possible based on your past based on what other people are saying to you based on whatever like achievable. Who knows if it's going to be achievable? If you're doing something you've never done before, if you are trying something new that is like stretching you beyond where you've ever gone before, you have no fucking idea if it's achievable.
But like, why would you not try? Why would you not test it and put yourself like in a position where You're going to find out. And if not, then okay, that's all good. And you can pivot, you can learn, you can try something else. Don't [00:28:00] make it achievable. Just let yourself dream, okay? If your brain's like, yeah, but that's not realistic.
Yeah, but that's not going to happen. Yeah, but that's be like, shush, thank you brain, I know you're trying to protect me because you don't want me to fail and you don't want me to like, look stupid, you don't want me to beat myself up, that's okay, but that's not what we're doing here, okay, this is a dreaming exercise, this is allowing yourself to dream, to be like, what would be amazing, what would be fun, like, however freaking insane and crazy it is, It doesn't matter.
Don't let your brain, your logical brain shut down, like your creativity and your dreaming. Okay. So what would be fun for 2025? Again, the timeframe doesn't really matter, but thinking like in the year it doesn't have to be achievable. Okay. Because here's the, here's the other thing with achievable is like when you, if it was, if you were tampering it to like, well, this is only cheap, but this is only achievable, like.
Yeah, okay, you might achieve those things, but if you were dreaming beyond that and you actually were like, oh my god, [00:29:00] this is what I would want. If you get even to like 50 percent or 30 percent of it, you're probably way beyond what you actually thought was even achievable. And then you can keep going the rest of the way if you want to, or you can change on to something else, like it doesn't matter.
But like, even just allowing yourself to dream bigger, you're going to shift the goalpost of like what you actually think could be possible. The key thing with all of this is like, it doesn't matter what your situation is right now. It doesn't matter what has happened in the past, what goals you have created or not, or how many you filled out, like that doesn't matter.
This whole piece and everything with like manifesting and like goal setting is taking your mind and imagining. Beyond what is currently happening and what is currently in your situation, what's currently realistic research achievable and like what you think is possible. And it's like coming up with this even bigger vision and the more that like.
Training your brain to think bigger. Again, it's just practice. And at first you might be like, uh, [00:30:00] I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't. And it's like just thinking about where this comes from. Like maybe you were taught by people like you should be realistic. You should be like reasonable. You should be like, oh, let's be realistic here.
Let's be like logical here. It's like, fuck. That, I'm sorry, this is, I'm getting a bit more sweary on these podcasts, but actually fuck that. Okay? So, stop being realistic, stop trying to make it achievable, just let yourself dream. Like go back to being a kid. Go back to just this like unhindered imagination, creativity, just dream.
Let yourself through, okay? Just think bigger and be like, what if? And like, it should excite you and it should terrify you in like, equal measure and that is an amazing thing. And also feel fun, remember, it's like, not because you should do or have these things, but like, what are you like, oh, that, like, it's quite interesting.
I was even thinking about this year and I was like, oh, what would I want? And I was thinking like, one of them, I was like, oh, [00:31:00] something, something like podcast downloads or something like that. And I was like, that literally does not excite me. At all Like, AT ALL. It does not excite me at all. Podcast interviews, that excites me.
So thinking more along hat lines, I'm like, Oh yeah, okay, like, pipes of people I could get on or, like, Different interviews I could do That feels really exciting Number of podcast downloads, I'm like, literally does not excite me at all. So it's also got to be something that like, like, that's just not going to ever motivate me at all to try and be like, have to get as many downloads.
It just doesn't. And maybe at some point it will, but like, there's an example of something that it was almost like, Oh, I should have a number that's of downloads. It's like, absolutely. Like, it's just doesn't motivate me. So I'm not having that as something I'm working towards because again, that's going to.
potentially have me chasing the wrong thing, or like trying to get something that's just not exciting. Whereas I'm like, ooh, an in person interview, that would be really fun. So I'm like, okay, how can I make that happen? Like that feels [00:32:00] really exciting to try almost like a different way of doing a podcast than number of downloads, like.
I don't know, maybe at some point I'll focus on it, but that like, really doesn't bother me. So, it's really checking in what feels fun, what feels like, oh, this is exciting, a bit scary. Just allow yourself to dream, okay? And, okay, so the first one, become grounded in what you already have right now. You know that you're enough.
You don't need anything to make you enough, or you don't need anything. Step two, what would be so fun, okay? Just dream bigger, allow yourself to be like, okay, but what if it could be even bigger? Like, just allow your imagination to go. And then the third piece is just write it down, okay? So it is so powerful to have your goals written down, right?
Just write like anything that comes to mind, make a massive list of them, like fill up pads of paper, like in your journal, create a big sheet, and like, Like a [00:33:00] big, um, you know. I mean, you can get any size of sheet, I was going to be like A4, A3, but you can get any size of paper you want. Just like do doodles right all over it, like do like a mind map, do whatever, write in your phone notes.
It doesn't matter. Have it written down or, and or, create a vision board. Now, this is something I'm actually really excited. I am doing an in person event next week and I cannot wait. I've got 15 amazing, amazing, beautiful souls all coming into this awesome studio in Banquery It's going to be so good. And we're doing vision boarding.
So I'm going to talk them through, take them through my vision boarding process, and we're going to make vision boards. I've literally got, I've got so many magazines. I've been like, mom, do you have any spare magazines? I mean, I don't really read them, but I've managed to cobble together a bunch of magazines.
I just need to find some scissors. And I think I've got enough glue. I think we've got enough glue in the cupboard of like, And just take everyone through the process of like connecting with what they want and then like finding visuals that are gonna create [00:34:00] that feeling of like excitement or of like all of pride or whatever is like within them and actually creating a vision board.
Vision boards are so powerful because, well, also writing it down is very powerful, like either way, but like having something that becomes a reminder, it feeds into essentially the, what's called the reticular activating system, the part of our brain that's almost like a filter for how we are seeing the world.
So when we are feeding it what we want, it will find More things are going to move us towards that. And also when we are like, um, and relaxed or meditating or doing yoga or like resting, switching away from the doing and the thinking, the analytical, when we're in a more relaxed state, all of these ideas are going to like come pouring in because our brain is working away in the background.
It'll be like, Ooh, message that person or like go to this event or. Do this thing or go away [00:35:00] here like all of these micro tiny little like nudges and like our intuition and our gut and our heart like it all will speak to us when we're in a more relaxed state when we know actually where we're focused and like what is that we want and what we're working towards.
And so the more that we can. Again, this is all happening like at a subconscious level, like we're not actively thinking about it. It's all like our subconscious brain, our body, it's all like working away in the background. It's amazing. And so when we're seeing like a visual, like a vision board. And it's instilling in us that feeling of, like, if we had these things and we'd created it, and then our brain will be, like, working in the background.
So you can also, like, create a physical vision board and, like, have it somewhere that you're gonna see. Or you can create one in, like, I was gonna say, I guess you could do it in Canva if you use that, or Pinterest. They actually have, like, a collage thing. You can even get the Pinterest app. And like, I have an idea like pull some different things in and you can set it as like a [00:36:00] screensaver in your phone you could print it out that way like there's different ways of doing it so you can physically have stuff and like cut it out whether it's magazines or like printing things out and cut them out or you can like do it in your phone and just have it.
I've done it both ways like I like having stuff printed out and there's something nice about cutting it and like putting it together it feels quite creative and like something I remember I used to do that as like a kid at like nine. Cut stuff out of magazines and like cut out letters and make little phrases and make these like collages.
I don't, I didn't know it was like vision boarding at the time and then but also if I'm like oh I want a vision board for like August or for the, I think I remember doing that like, Oh, I want one for August. I'm just going to do something like quickly in my phone. Like I wanted it as a focus and I just had it there.
Like I just did it on the interest app. So there's so many different tools that you can do. Just try it out, play with it. It could be really fun. Just like, and it can be, you know, allowing yourself, whether it's like for work, for your business, whether it's outside of work, all of it, I really encourage you.
It can be for one thing, but [00:37:00] like, The more that you can think kind of holistically and think like, okay, what are the different elements of your life? And like, what would be really fun in those different elements? You can even start by thinking when you're imagining your goals and dreaming, it's like, what is it in different parts of your life?
And really having that like bigger picture as well. And so, yeah, so the third step is just like writing it down, having it somewhere you can see creating a vision board, creating a visual of it. Again, the more that you see it, the more that you read your goals, see your goals on a vision board, the more it's like you're, It's just going to be there in your brain, your brain's going to start seeing it making decisions.
It's just the most amazing. Or you'll have this idea, be like, Ooh, I'll do this thing. And you're not consciously necessarily thinking about it. It's just working away in the background. It's so fun. And it's also so fun. And especially if you're, again, if you're neurodivergent, like you're probably potentially quite visual and quite creative and it's just such a fun way.
Like, do call setting, like, that's the [00:38:00] thing that manifests, like, that I've loved about manifesting is like, the more I've learned about it, I used to have, it was a bit more of like, structured goals and like, do out all your actions and do all this. I'm like, yes, it can be helpful to like, figure out what the actions are, but actually I realize I'm a bit more like, flowy, creative.
intuitive and actually that, like sometimes with actions, I'm like force, force, force, and I can force stuff even though actually I'm doing the action, but I'm like, not really into it. Or I'm like, I'm not sure this is the thing just because I thought it was like a few weeks ago. Like now it doesn't quite feel right.
And I'll sometimes push, I used to push through because I'd said that I would do it or whatever. Whereas now it's almost like giving myself permission to be like, Oh, actually I can listen to my body and like, listen to myself and trust myself more than like just because I said I would do this thing, like if it doesn't feel right.
Like, okay, what feels right right now and knowing that like my body is so wise, it [00:39:00] has so much amazing information to give me and the more that I'm like listening to it and leaning into it, just the easier and like flowier life feels and the more surprising and fun and like creative it feels as well.
So yeah, I think manifestation. Or whatever you call it, it's just such a fun, playful way of goal setting and it just totally appeals to my neurodivergent brain of like playing and trying different things and yeah, it's so good. It's so creative and, and fun. I just love it. Anyway, I am, I still have loads of battery left.
Look at that. This has been so nice. I feel like I've had like such a nice little chat downstairs just on my own cup of tea. Um, well, thank you for. Being here with me and having this chat with me. Oh yeah, I'll go over the three again just in case. So, this is again when you're starting to plan an Imagine 2025.
The first, you are enough as you are. Get grounded in what you already have. You don't need anything [00:40:00] else. But, number two, what would be so fun, just because you want to, just because you're like, oh this would be so fun, and just allow yourself to dream bigger, there's no rules, just allow it to be playful.
And then number three, write it down, write all your goals down, have it there, create a visual, create a vision boards, put something in your phone, just have it somewhere that you can look at and like come back to. If you're writing it down, have it in your diary or on post it notes, like whatever it is, have it so that you can see it and it's like your brain's going to be working in the background.
Happy New Year. Here is 2025 and thanks for being on this journey with me and I can't wait to see what you create. And yeah, there's some, well, I'm having very much like, I took these two weeks off. I had other plans, but anyway, things have evolved and But I'm definitely like having the two weeks off to just fully rest and recharge.
But there's going to be some very fun and interesting stuff coming next year. [00:41:00] And I'll talk about it in another episode. But going to be some slight pivots in the business and with where I am taking my focus. And I will let you know where that's going. And there's some fun ways that you can work with me as well that I'm going to be offering up.
So watch this space. If you want to take this work deeper and work on it with some other amazing humans, there's some fun stuff coming up. So anyway, that's what I'm saying for now, but have an amazing rest of the day, an amazing week ahead. And if you are back to work already, I hope you have a nice restoring weekend ahead.
And if you're not, I'm back next week. We have the second off in, in Scotland and so it's like, maybe we'll take the third off as well. And it's nice having like a proper chunk. So I'm back to work next week. So yeah, hope back to work stuff and all of that goes well and just taking a nice easy energy into the start of the new year, being kind to yourself, listening to how you feel, checking in with that and just, [00:42:00] yeah, just finding like moments of joy and awe and wonder, like, look up at the stars whenever you can, if you can see them go and like, Put your hand on a tree and like watch it sway in the wind or anything like that.
Just create a bit of wonder and awe and that's quite fun. Anyway, hope you have a great rest of the day and a great weekend and I will see you next time.
