How to stop worrying

Quickly replying to a few emails at dinner won’t make the worry go away.

And neither will logging on first thing on a Saturday, just to get a head start on the week ahead.

But it's simple to stop feeling worried.

You just need to understand exactly what’s causing the worry.

And then solve for that.

The only reason you’re rushing to tick things off your list is because you’re trying to get rid of worry by doing more.

But this never works.

Because worry isn’t caused by a client email.

Or your to-do list.

And so you can’t make it go away by sending emails or getting more done.

Worry is a feeling - a pattern of energy in your body.

And it’s caused by what you’re thinking about your to-do list.

Not the to-do list itself.

To-do lists are completely neutral.

I could look at your list and not feel worried at all.

So we know it’s not the list causing the worry (or else everyone who saw it would feel worried).

It’s your thoughts about the list.

Which is great news as you have full control over how you want to think.

Which means you have full control over how you want to feel.

It might not seem like it at first.

But this is what we help our clients master with a simple neuroscience-based model: thinking and feeling on purpose.

So when they feel worried, they don’t rush to fire off some emails to make it go away.

Because they know that won’t work.

Instead they use this model to understand why they’re worried.

(Hint: how they’re thinking).

And solve for that.

When they drop the worry, they free up so much mental energy.

They feel in control.

Like a weight has lifted.

They no longer have Sunday dread.

Instead they’re fully present - being silly with their family, connecting with friends.

This is possible for you, too.

Simply stop trying to outrun worry by sending more emails or getting more done.

And instead shift how you're thinking about those emails or your to-do list.

It all starts with your mindset.
